Ian Whatley
competed for the USA Track and Field team in racewalking at 3,000
Metres (indoors), 10Km on track, 20 and 50 Kilometres on the roads.
He is a four time Olympic trials competitor and obtained his degree
in Human Biology at Loughborough University in England as a team
mate of Sebastian Coe. Whatley was brough to the US in the early
1980s on a "unique skills" visa to set up part of the
Nike Sport Research Lab. He has served on the USATF Sport Science
and Medicine Committee and was one of the authors of the USATF
Coaching Manual (Human Kinetics Press). A former runner on the
British University's cross-country team, he continues to racewalk
and run in training around his home in South Carolina.
