Judy’s Fitness Tip

Local activities and events

Dear Friends,

I recently had the opportunity of coaching three incredible women in their quest to participate in a judged 50K racewalk. Two weeks into the program one member sprained her ankle. She adjusted her goal distance to the 20K, as we explored all options of healing and training. They were steadfast in pursuit of their goal to be legal racewalkers in the 50K and 20K.

Victory in life can take various forms: showing up, being at the start, participating, crossing the finish line. Sandy, the oldest of all 50K participants demonstrated that victory can be achieved although the finish line eluded her. She walked with determination & grace legally for more than 5 hours, being judged by Olympic level and USAT&F judges. She did one of the hardest things to do in a race, which is to listen to her body. In her own words, "I am just happy that I realized in time that my body was not going to take many more steps --- it a very weird feeling, which quickly went from knowing I was not feeling well to realizing either I sit down, or my body would make that decision for me -- OK, been there, done that, and don't plan on / see the need for, doing that again.

FORWARD, she shouts, towards continued development of this funny looking walk and the adventures ahead."

Take Sandy’s lead and focus on what you do accomplish in your quest for better health, wellness &/or fitness and see where that may lead you.
